Url redirection .htaccess

Hey, I got something new today.
one can Use .htaccess file for redirection of url according to som fix rules.
you have to just write rule for url rewriting in the .htaccess files and put in one directory in server.
Apache does the rest job it converts the url as per conditions and rediretcs to that url.

What is ColdFusion ?

I am not a coldfusion expert. Today we had a requirement of a coldfusion expert in our company. but no one in our company was aware of coldfusion. so a curiosity arised in my mind , what is exactly coldfusion?.
and realised that.

ColdFusion is a Database-Web-Gateway. This is all game about puting data from database into html pages with the help of templates.

Most Templates use the file extension .cfm (in recent versions of the software) or .dbm (in versions prior to 3.0).
Not all webservers have the coldfusion installed and those which have it, usually charge more than others. But it looks as paying lottle more is really worth if you can get more productivity by using It.

Google plans rival e-mail service

Google, the world's most popular internet search engine, plans to offer an e-mail service called Gmail in a bid to rival Yahoo and Microsoft's Hotmail.
The new service promises to take away the need to delete unwanted messages and organise e-mail according to topic.
The service is still being tested and not yet generally available, but will be offered for free on www.gmail.com.
Google mail provides one gigabyte of storage - many times more than existing rivals that also offer free e-mail.
Each user would have storage equivalent to 500,000 pages of e-mail, said Google.

Is'nt this a great news ?

Credit cards tap into radio tags

Forget about using a pen to sign a credit card slip, or even tapping in a secret number. In the future, you could authorise payments by simply moving your finger over your flexible friend.
A leading professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has suggested using radio tags in credit cards as a kind of virtual signature.

Professor Ted Selker said the way someone moved their finger over the card would alter the radio transmission, producing a signal unique to that person.

"I could have some gesture and that would be my signature," he said, "it would be like a personal handshake."

The idea of putting radio tags in credit cards is not as far-fetched as it sounds. Mastercard has been experimenting with the technology, known as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID).

Longhorn beta likely to slip into 2005

A first beta release of the next version of Windows likely will be delayed until next year because Microsoft Corp. is concentrating first on a security-focused update to Windows XP, the Redmond, Washington-based company said Thursday.
Microsoft had said it would deliver a beta version of Longhorn, the code name for the next Windows release, in mid-2004. However, the test version is now expected in early 2005 because many developers working on Longhorn have been reassigned to work on Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Windows XP, a Microsoft spokesman said.

"Based on what has happened over the past year in the area of security, we took a look at what was going on with Windows ... and pulled resources from Longhorn development in order to deliver Windows XP Service Pack 2. That slightly impacted the beta schedule for Longhorn," said Greg Sullivan, lead product manager for Windows at Microsoft.

Windows XP SP2, scheduled for release in the first half of this year, is more than the usual roll-up of bug fixes and updates. Microsoft is using the update to make significant changes to Windows that are designed to improve security in four main areas: network protection, memory protection, e-mail and Web browsing.

Longhorn is a major new Windows release, a "big bet" for Microsoft, Chairman and Chief Software Architect Bill Gates said last year. Gates has described Longhorn as a "big breakthrough release" and the most significant release of Windows since Windows 95.
